FAQs

Product Information

Q: Does the cold temperature really come through the wood?

A: Yes! The inserted ice pack keeps the board around 50–55°F (sometimes even colder) for at least 3–4 hours indoors.

Q: What is the Latitude charcuterie board made of?

A: High-quality teak wood, known for its durability, beautiful grain, and natural water resistance.

Q: Will the ice inside ruin the board?  What about condensation?

A:  It won't, but "why" is a two-part answer. First, we use PCM ice packs (phase change material) because they are specifically used in pharmaceutical cold chain transport for long term consistent temperatures and do not condensate like water-based ice packs do.

More importantly- we only use premium teak for this exact purpose. Teak is used in outdoor furniture and yachting and is known to withstand both the elements and temperature changes without warping. So even if you would use a different ice pack than we do, teak could handle it without any damage to the board.

Q: Can I cut on the Latitude Board?

A: You can, but teak can show knife marks. We recommend avoiding cutting directly on it to preserve its beauty.

Q: Isn't cheese supposed to be served at room temperature?

A: Yes (we see you traditional charcuterie enthusiasts!), but during plating and transport, a stable cool temperature helps keep soft cheeses, fruits, and meats fresh until you are ready to serve. Simply remove the ice pack before service if you prefer to serve at room temperature!

Q: Does the board meet food service temperature guidelines?

A: The temperature range of the Latitude Board is intentional for optimal presentation and the insertable ice pack is designed to maintain freshness rather than full refrigeration. Please follow USDA recommendations for all food service.

Q: What is a PCM gel pack?

A: PCM (Phase Change Material) packs keep a stable temperature longer than traditional ice, ideal for food presentation.

Q: How long does the gel pack stay cold?

A: Up to 4 hours depending on conditions. Always freeze at least 12 hours beforehand for best results.

Q: What is the thermal carrier bag made of?

A: Durable oxford fabric with insulated lining to maintain food temperatures during transport.

Usage & Care

Q: What should I do when I receive my order?

A: Remove the ice pack, clean the board with mild soap and water, and wipe dry. Mineral oil residue is normal on first cleaning.

Q: Is the board dishwasher-safe?

A: No, hand wash only! Dishwashers can warp or crack natural teak wood.

Q: How should I care for the board?

A: Clean gently, reapply food-safe mineral oil every 6–12 months, or when it starts to lose its color and store in a dry, cool place.

Q: Does the board come pre-treated?

A: Yes! Every board is pre-oiled with food-safe mineral oil and beeswax mixture before shipping.  We do not use any chemical-based sealants or stains on our boards.
